Former Detroit Lions safety Glover Quin announced his retirement from the NFL last week, and he certainly doesn't expect to be experiencing any financial issues now that the paychecks won't be rolling in anymore.

Why? Because Quin has been saving up for this moment:

“That was all a part of the plan,” Quin said, per Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. “I never had a Bentley. I never had a Maserati. My wife and I lived well. We just didn’t live extravagantly. My attitude was, if you sacrifice a little bit in your twenties, you can live great for the rest of your life. And by doing that, I could walk away without thinking right now, ‘I gotta play one more year because I really need that extra $2 million.’”

Quin made about $33 million during his professional career and saved up 70 percent of his after-tax income.

The 33-year-old played 10 seasons in the NFL, spending the final six years of his career with the Lions. In 2018, he played in all 16 games and registered 74 tackles and a sack.

Quin, who played his collegiate football at the University of New Mexico, was originally selected by the Houston Texans in the fourth round (112th pick overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft.

He went on to spend the first four seasons of his career with the Texans before signing with the Lions in 2013. Quin proceeded to make one Pro Bowl in Detroit, which came during his second year with the club when he totaled 74 tackles, seven interceptions and 10 passes defended.
