With just a few days left ahead of the NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions are open to making some deals. Lions general manager Bob Quinn has publicly announced that the team is interested in trading down in order to acquire more picks later in the draft.

“I think we’re going to kind of take it as it comes in the first round and see what’s there in the teens and evaluate what our options are,” Quinn said, per Carlos Monarrez of the Detroit Free Press. “I’m always in the business of getting more draft picks, if I can. … I think that’s just good for business. The more you get, the more you hit on.

The Lions currently have the No. 20 overall pick in the first round. However, it’s one of just six picks they have in the draft overall, which is tied for the fewest in the league.

Quinn has not closed the door on keeping that No. 20 pick and using it to get a player they like, but he has made it clear that acquiring more picks is something he’d look forward to.

While Quinn comes from a Patriots organization that is famous for consistently trading down, he surprisingly hasn’t done those types of deals much in his time as Detroit GM. He’s only traded down once in his first two years with the Lions.

But as the Pats have proven over the years, trading down in the draft can be a savvy strategy as it gives teams more chances to find players capable of contributing.
