The Detriot Lions have a franchise quarterback in Matthew Stafford, but the team is still seeming to struggle to put the right pieces around him to make the playoffs and take that next step forward.

During an interview on SiriusXM NFL Radio, general manager Bob Quinn said that is the key this NFL offseason that the team takes the right steps to put Stafford in a better position to succeed.

The Lions let go of offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter and hired Darrell Bevell to take over the same position because of his ability to adapt to the players on the Seattle Seahawks and Minnesota Vikings. The hope is that he will be able to adjust to Stafford and the rest of the offense and put the team in the best position to succeed.

“We’re really excited to have Matthew Stafford. He really goes under the radar. When we’re not winning, he doesn’t get as much credit. When he does, he doesn’t get enough either. He’s in tough spot, because he’s really talented and we need to do a better job of putting him in a position to succeed.”

The Lions do have more cap space this offseason over the last few seasons which should help the team improve. The team has some nice offensive skill players and only a few more players needed to be added.

As Stafford gets older the pressure continues to mount to win during his prime, so the Lions better hope they can make the right moves this offseason.
