This NFL offseason there has been several notable players in the final year of their respective deals that have decided to hold out in hopes 0f inking a new lucrative contract. Detroit Lions wide receiver Golden Tate is in a similar position with his current deal with the franchise but has instead elected to continue to participate in all aspects of the team's offseason workouts and training camp.

It is a plan of action that Tate has decided to go with because he feels that he must “honor” the entire five-year contract that runs through the 2018 campaign, according to Jeremy Reisman of Pride of Detroit.

“I signed a five-year contract and I’m going to honor it,” Tate said after Friday’s practice. “I love the game a lot. I want to be out here around the guys.”

Tate had joined the Lions in free agency on a five-year, $31 million deal that has seen him become a primary fixture in the passing game as one of Pro Bowl quarterback Matthew Stafford's primary targets. This has seen him put up highly productive campaigns in his first four years with Detroit toppling 90 receptions in each season while reaching 1,000 receiving yards three times that included earning his only Pro Bowl selection.

The 29-year-old has been a huge source of reliability in the passing game that should continue in the 2018 season, which should put him in line to receive another significant deal from the Lions or another team in the free agent market. He has established as one of the most productive wide receivers in the league that has shown he can be a significant asset in the passing game.

Tate's comments are not necessarily a shot at the other players who have decided to hold out for a new deal, but simply what he believes is best for his situation.
