The Detroit Lions recently made roster moves which may suggest that starting quarterback Matthew Stafford will be out for an extended period of time due to a lingering rib injury. Motor City recently signed former XFL gunslinger Jordan Ta'amu to their practice squad which gives the team an insurance in lieu of Stafford's absence, per NFL Network‘s Ian Rapoport.

According to MLive's Kyle Meinke, the team has a total of four quarterbacks on their roster which could be additional proof that Stafford won't be playing in their Week 15 encounter against the Tennessee Titans.

The former Georgia standout sustained the rib injury back in the fourth quarter of their Week 14 tilt against the Green Bay Packers. He then left the game with tallies of 244 yards on 24-of-34 passes completed along with a passing touchdown.

Backup gunslinger Chase Daniel was then slotted in under center and handled the playmaking duties where he recorded 29 yards on a 3/6 passing clip. Without their best quarterback on the field, the Lions failed to successfully mount a comeback in the final frame en route to a 31-24 loss.

With a 5-8 record and fourth in the NFC North, the Lions are already out of contention for a playoff spot. It would be wise for them to not rush the former Pro Bowler back in action to prevent him from further aggravating his rib injury.

Despite his condition, there is still a small window of opportunity that Matthew Stafford gets to return on the field in Week 15. With or without their starting quarterback, the Lions will hope to stand a chance against the streaking Titans and close out their final games of the season on a strong note.
