Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff is ready to start a new chapter in another city after he was shipped by the Los Angeles Rams in an abrupt trade for veteran playmaker Matthew Stafford. Goff remained grateful for his time in Los Angeles but also insisted that he is eager to come and play with extra motivation next season for the Lions.

Via Michael Rothstein of ESPN:

“I think at first, absolutely. I think it builds that chip on your shoulder a little bit,” Goff said. “I won't lie about that. There is that little extra motivation and chip that you do feel, and again, I am so thankful for all my time there, but yeah, you do feel that. You do feel a little bit of, ‘Hey, let's see what we can do now.'”

The 26-year-old didn't particularly disappoint on the field during the 2020 NFL season, but he wasn't playing at a high level either. He managed to record 3,952 passing yards on 370 completions to go with 20 touchdowns. His production allowed the Rams to finish with a 10-6 record and a berth into the playoffs.

Goff Ready For Fresh Start With Lions

However, injuries played a part in his decline in the latter stages of the season which caused his squad to be knocked out in the second round of the playoffs. The Rams knew that they needed to make a change at the quarterback position if they want to make a deeper run in the postseason in the coming years.

He was eventually traded to the Lions alongside a 2021 third-round pick and first-round assets in both 2022 and 2023 in exchange for Stafford. After five seasons in Los Angeles capped by a Super Bowl LIII appearance and two Pro Bowl selections, Jared Goff is raring to attain even more success in Motor City.

Hopefully, the Lions will give him enough opportunities to showcase his talent as he seeks to prove his worth on the field next season.
