In his first few months with the Detriot Lions, rookie running back Kerryon Johnson has made a strong impression on the team that has put forth a bright future ahead.

Although he has been placed into a crowded situation in the backfield, Johnson has voiced that he is hoping to showcase to the team that he can be their three-down running back with the opportunities he receives this season, according to Tim Twentyman of Detriotlions.com.

Johnson has shown the ability early on to be a factor in the passing game, something he didn’t do a whole lot of in college at Auburn. Johnson said he takes pride in trying to show that he can be one of those rare three-down backs in this league.

“I just like being able to have as many opportunities as I can,” he said Thursday. “Being able to do a lot of different things gives you the most opportunities to help, the most opportunities to win and that’s just what I like to do.”

Johnson has made the most of his limited workload in the first two games this season rushing for a team-best 60 yards on 13 carries while also tallying eight catches for 43 receiving yards. He has shown to be a versatile factor out of the backfield that has continued to etch out playing time behind LeGarrette Blount and Theo Reddick.

The fact that he has been able to get that much playing time as the third-string option in the backfield shows the type of confidence that the team has in his talent. Johnson has brought another element that wasn't previously there as a receiving threat that could make plays in the passing game.

All of this may simply hinge on him making the most of his opportunities that will lie ahead of this season order to make serious headway in earning playing time that could vie for the starting job down the line. In the meantime, Johnson appears to have the mindset to reach those aspirations.
