Detroit Lions rookie running back Kerryon Johnson is expected to play against the Chicago Bears, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Johnson was listed as questionable on the team’s injury report after three days of limited practice this week due to an ankle injury.

Johnson’s had a terrific season thus far, rushing for 503 yards on an impressive 5.7 yards per carry. He broke the Lions’ five-year-long drought without a 100-yard rusher as he had 101 yards in a win against the Patriots. He then topped that with 158 yards against the Dolphins in Week 7.

However, Johnson’s production has slowed down a bit since. In his last two games, he has rushed for just 59 yards on 20 carries. Perhaps not surprisingly, the Lions lost both of those games against the Seahawks and Vikings.

It remains to be seen just how effective Johnson will be given his ankle issue. But with LeGarrette Blount such a non-factor after his arrival, the Lions will need Johnson to be close to his very best if they hope to establish the threat of the run against the tough Chicago defense.

If the Lions can't get anything going on the ground, then Matthew Stafford will once again have to try and lift the offense. That will be much harder to do with one of his top receivers in Golden Tate now gone.
