The Detroit Lions are well out of the playoff race, but running back Kerryon Johnson still hopes to return this weekend against the Denver Broncos. Johnson has been on the IR after tearing his meniscus in Week 7 and when the injury happened many believed he would be out the rest of the season.

“I hope to,” Johnson said after practice on Thursday, via Kyle Meinke of MLive. “I don't make those decisions, but if I'm called upon, I'll be ready. And if I'm not, I'll be ready to cheer 'em on. But I feel good, I feel like I can (play) if I need to, but like I said, that decision is way above us, so we'll wait and see.”

The talk around the Lions is that Johnson has looked good in practice, and all signs are pointing towards him suiting up against the Broncos.

Even though it's what Johnson wants to do, there are some who are questioning if this is the right decision. Johnson has already suffered two knee injuries during his first two years in the league, and many believe it would be in his best interest to sit out the last two games and return next season.

“I feel good, man,” Johnson said. “I’ve been practicing for, what? Three weeks now, I guess? It’s been fine. Just trying to get back to my old self, just working, being out there having something to do instead of sitting around watching everybody else do stuff. It’s very exciting, so I’ve been happy.”

If Johnson is to come back on Sunday, it's hard to imagine the team is going to run him out with a full workload.
