The Detroit Lions may be without a couple of key defensive players in camp, but head coach Matt Patricia is not concerned.

Both defensive lineman Damon Harrison and cornerback Darius Slay are skipping the Lions' mandatory minicamp as a result of their respective contract dispute with the team, but Patricia doesn't think anything is too out of the ordinary:

“It’s nothing uncharted territory from that aspect of it,” Patricia said, according to Dave Birkett of The Detroit Free Press. “We’re just focused on the guys that are here. We’re really just trying to get better.”

As for whether or not Patricia wants to discuss the details of the holdouts? He is being tight-lipped:

“I don’t really talk about any of that stuff as far as contract situations or relationships or any of that sort of stuff,” he said. “So we’re just, again, focusing on the guys that are in the building and out on the practice field.”

Both Harrison and Slay have two years remaining on their current deals.

The Lions acquired Harrison in a midseason trade with the New York Giants this past year. He went on to play 10 games with Detroit, registering 50 tackles, 3.5 sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. On the season overall, he totaled 81 tackles.

Meanwhile, Slay is entering his seventh NFL season, with all of them coming with the Lions. He is coming off of back-to-back Pro Bowl appearances, and in 2018, he recorded 43 tackles, three interceptions, 17 passes defended and a defensive touchdown.

Detroit won just six games this past season.
