The first two years of the Matt Patricia era have not gone that well in the Motor City. The Detroit Lions won just six games in Patricia's inaugural campaign in 2018, and this past season, they went just 3-12-1, which had some wondering if Patricia would even keep his job heading into 2020.

The Lions decided to give him another chance, which was probably the right decision given the amount of injuries Patricia was forced to endure in 2019, particularly under center where Matthew Stafford missed the entire second half of the year.

But now, Patricia is ready to give the fans a winner for the first time in forever.

“Our fans are amazing,” Patricia said on NFL Network. “The passion in which they love this team, every single year. The encouragement we’ve gotten as an organization, to go out and try to get everything done the right way.”

Detroit has been a laughing stock over much of the last three decades, as it has made the playoffs just three times since 2000 and has not won a playoff game since the 1991-92 campaign.

Patricia hopes to change that.

“That’s really all I want. I want to win,” he said. “I want to try and build a team the right way, to where we can do that week-in-week-out, and just give the fans what they deserve.”

The Lions still appear to be a rather long way away from legitimately contending, especially in a tough NFC North division that includes the Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears, but there is also no doubting that Detroit has some interesting talent on both sides of the ball and could be an improved club heading into next season.
