This season has been rough for the Detroit Lions as they struggled to string together wins. With their playoff hopes now in danger of slipping, it's understandable why Matthew Stafford is desperate to play more football.

Stafford fractured the bones in his back and won't be involved in any snaps any time soon. However, the quarterback confirmed that he's been playing to keep himself back in shape as soon as possible. In fact, he wants to get back on the field before the season is over.

It's natural that people got curious about his desire to return to the field as soon as possible. He pointed out to people interested that he wants to keep playing due to his love for the game.

According to NFL.com's Kevin Patra:

“Because this is what I do,” Stafford said Wednesday, when asked why he should play again in 2019. “I understand your question, but this is what I love to do. I love playing football. I appreciate all the hard work that all the guys in this locker room and in this organization put into going out there and trying to win games on Sunday and I love being a part of that.”

Stafford has had an impressive season for the Lions before going down in Week 9. He has 2,499 passing yards and 19 touchdowns to his name. He's done consistently well for the Lions and is not to blame for the misfortune the team has been experiencing this season.

While he does want to get back to the field, it's unlikely that the team's doctors will allow him back with his back not yet fully healed. It will be up to his recovery rate whether he'll be able to play or not.
