Detroit Lions veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford missed the final eight games of the 2019 NFL season after fracturing his back in spite of his insistence to play through the pain. Instead, journeyman backup quarterback Jeff Driskel and undrafted rookie David Blough had to share the starting job in Stafford's absence for the remainder of the season, which resulted in a final record of 3-12-1 and last place in the NFC North.

The 31-year-old former Comeback Player of the Year answered questions on his lingering health. Matthew Stafford addressed whether he'll be ready to play in 2020 for the Lions on Monday, per Jeff Risdon in Lions Wire.

“I feel really good,” Stafford said. “I’ve had a lot of rest … I’ll be feeling really, really good pretty darn soon, to tell you the truth.”

When asked for more clarity on if he’ll be ready for the offseason programs, Stafford did not hesitate,

“Oh yeah, I’ll be good to go. No question,” Stafford stated confidently.

Despite Detroit's poor standing even prior to Stafford's eventual season-ending injury, the one-time Pro-Bowl signal-caller was actually having quite a remarkable season in 2019. At the end, Matthew Stafford would finish with 2,499 passing yards on 187 completions for 18 touchdowns and five interceptions in eight starts (going 3-4-1 in the process).

If there's any concern about the long-term health of Matthew Stafford, that would be the only thing preventing the Lions from keeping their veteran under center. Nevertheless, it looks like Stafford still has the goods and is ready for another season of Motor City football.
