Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford is having a rough 2020 campaign. It's certainly nowhere near the type of season he had in 2019. Carlos Monarrez of The Detroit Free Press asked the 32-year old on what is behind his struggles this year. Stafford thinks everything has gone south for him and the Lions this season.

“It just comes down to throwing and catching,” he said, via Yahoo Sports. “Um, all of it. We’re still trying to push the ball down the field. Teams are doing a nice job of trying to keep it in front of them. And I’m trying to take what the defense is giving me.

“And as far as the turnovers go, there’s no excuse for those. Just can’t have them. I think four in the last two weeks is too many and I’m going to do everything I can to try to make sure that doesn’t happen again.”

Stafford's narrative was way different last year. The 2011 Comeback Player of the Year was having a strong campaign that helped keep Detroit afloat for most of the season. In fact, Stafford even found himself in the MVP conversation despite the Lions holding a 3-4-1 record in the games he appeared in.

Unfortunately, he suffered a broken back midway through the campaign, ending any semblance of hopes the Lions had.

This year, however, has been different for Stafford. He simply hasn't looked like the player he was last season. He hasn't been bad by any means. But he has failed to play consistently good for a Lions team that needs him to be every single night.

Nonetheless, it appears like Stafford is well aware of his struggles. Perhaps there's still time for him to turn things around through the second half of the season.
