The Detroit Lions have struggled to get in the win column during quarterback Matthew Stafford's recent absence. It seems they will have to find a way without him once again versus the Washington Redskins in Week 12.

Stafford has been sidelined the last two games with broken bones in his back. According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, he has been ruled out versus Washington:

The Lions declared QB Matthew Stafford out for Sunday vs. the Redskins with tiny fractures in his back.

Stafford's status should hardly come as any surprise considering his injury. Although he has indicated that he would still like to return in the 2019 NFL season, it is clear that Detroit does not plan on rushing him out there before he is ready.

The Lions are not playing for much at this point in the season at 3-6-1. As a result, there is little reason for them to trot Stafford back out before he is ready and risk him further aggravating the injury. This means backup quarterback Jeff Driskel is slated to make his third start

Driskel has actually done a solid job of filling in for Stafford so far. He has thrown for 478 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception since taking over under center the last two games.

While the offense continues to be a work in progress, he has managed to show enough promise for Detroit to be confident about getting into the win column in their favorable matchup against a Washington team still looking for its second win of the season.
