Politicians on both sides of the aisle are coming together in the state of Michigan with a simple message: hire Robert Saleh as the next head coach of the Detroit Lions.

Saleh is a native of Dearborn, Michigan, and San Francisco 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman lobbied hard for the Niners' defensive coordinator to get the Lions job.

Now, lawmakers in Michigan are doing the same. Michigan legislators wrote a letter to Lions owner Sheila Ford Hamp imploring the team to hire Saleh as Matt Patricia's replacement:

“We understand the difficulty of these upcoming decisions,” the letter reads, via Michael Rothstein of ESPN. “As passionate and loyal Lions fans, we are asking you to hire Robert Saleh as the head coach of our team. He is the best candidate for the job and measures as such across every metric. A head coach like Robert can bring tremendous energy and heart to the franchise and would help us reach peaks that have seemed unobtainable for so long. We have an exceptional opportunity here and we trust you to make the best decision.”

The letter was authored by Abdullah Hammoud, who represents Michigan's 15th District.

Hammoud posted the letter on his own Twitter account, adding 40 legislators–Republican and Democrat–signed the petition in support of the Lions hiring Saleh.

It certainly would not be a surprise to see Saleh get the job. He had been in the running for head coaching positions last year, but ultimately decided to remain with the Niners.

However, Saleh might be intrigued by the chance to return home and transform the Lions into a winning franchise.
