Free-agent running back Spencer Ware is visiting with the Detroit Lions on Monday, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Ware spent the 2018 campaign with the Kansas City Chiefs, playing in 13 games and rushing for 246 yards and a couple of touchdowns while averaging 4.8 yards per carry. In addition, he caught 20 passes for 224 yards.

The 27-year-old, who played his collegiate football at LSU, was originally selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the sixth round (194th pick overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft.

He played in just two games during his rookie campaign, logging just 10 yards on three carries. He was then released that ensuing summer and went on to sign a future/reserve contract with the Chiefs in December 2014.

Ware then appeared in 11 contests for Kansas City in 2015, finishing with 403 yards and six scores on the ground while managing an impressive 5.6 yards per attempt. Then, the following season, he started 14 games as the team's feature back, recording 921 yards and three touchdowns while posting 4.3 yards per carry. Also, Ware caught 33 passes for 447 yards and a couple of scores.

The Eunice, La. looked primed for another solid year in 2017, but he tore his PCL in the preseason and ended up missing the entire season.

The Lions could definitely use some help in the ground game, as they ranked just 23rd in the league in rushing this past year. Detroit won just six games in 2018 and missed the playoffs for the second straight year.

Since 2000, the Lions have made just three postseason appearances. They have not won a playoff game since the 1991-92 campaign.
