Sometimes, a team lucks out when it comes to finding the perfect rookie for their team. And if they're extremely lucky like the Detroit Lions, that rookie, T.J. Hockenson, will manage to break some records along the way.

Hockenson announced his arrival to the biggest stage by setting the record for receiving yards by a tight end in his first career game. He notched 131 yards on six receptions. He managed to impress fans, pundits, and opponents alike.

In fact, Lions Wire's Jeff Risdon was so impressed with the feat that he described his first NFL game as one where he stamped his authority. He also detailed that the previous record, by Monty Sickles' 123 yards in September 1960, stood for more than 40 years.

There is plenty of hype surrounding the eighth overall pick of the 2019 Draft. The former Iowa man put up impressive numbers in his two years with the Hawkeyes, recording 1,080 receiving yards in two years.

Ryan Russell of Side Lion Report also placed high hopes on the 22-year-old that was justified with the performance:

“He has shown his rare ability in both the blocking and passing games through nearly every practice. The rookie tight end has made his presence known on the field in the preseason as well. There is no reason to question whether he will meet the hype. It already appears as if he is ahead of the curve.”

There is no question that secondaries will be more aware of the star rookie after this kind of show. And Detroit fans will be eager to see their new star receiver do more incredible things on the field.
