Detroit Lions head coach Matt Patricia says that tight end T.J. Hockenson will miss the remainder of the season as a result of an ankle injury he suffered during his team's Thanksgiving Day loss to the Chicago Bears, per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk.

Hockenson will be placed on the injured reserve list. The rookie had a protective boot on after the Lions' Week 13 loss and had to use a one-leg scooter to help him move around.

The 22-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Iowa, was selected by Detroit with the eighth overall pick of the NFL Draft back in April.

In the 12 games he played this season, Hockenson logged 32 catches for 367 yards and a couple of touchdowns.

Hockenson spent two years at Iowa, arriving at the school in 2017. During his freshman season, he caught 24 passes for 320 yards and three scores. Then, in his sophomore campaign, Hockenson broke out, hauling in 49 receptions for 760 yards while reaching the end zone six times.

With the Lions desperately needing some help in the passing game, they decided to use their top draft pick on the Charlton, Ia. native.

While his season was abbreviated, Hockenson showed quite a bit of promise during his rookie campaign.

Detroit got off to a good start this year, going 2-0-1 over its first three games. However, since then, the Lions have lost eight of their last nine contests to fall to 3-8-1 and have seen Matthew Stafford go down with a back injury.

They now sit in last place in the NFC North.
