The Detroit Lions big offseason addition Trey Flowers is hoping that he can get some playing time before the regular season kicks off. Flowers started the preseason on the PUP list with an undisclosed injury, although speculation was that he was still recovering from offseason shoulder surgery.

He is now off the PUP list and has been a full participant in practices and would like to get a feel for the speed of the game again.

“You can never replicate a game, so a game is important,” Flowers said via the Detroit News. “The speed of the game, going against an opponent, things of that nature.”

Flowers also would like to build up some chemistry with his defensive teammates in a game situation. Flowers knows that it's all up to the training staff and he will follow whatever they tell him needs to happen.

“I’m working hard, going through all the things that they’re putting me through, and I just do what they say is the best for me,” Flowers said.

Coach Matt Patricia has said it will be decided at a later time if Flowers will play, but he needs to practice assuming that he will be on the field.

“I expect all of our guys to prepare and be ready to play. That’s the bottom line,” Patricia said. “Things can change right up until the game time. That’s for the players and the coaches to work together to try to decide what’s going to be best for everybody in that situation.

Even if Patricia and the training staff decide to hold Flowers out during the preseason, the expectation is he will still be on the field in Week 1.
