Free-agent wideout Mohamed Sanu is trying out for the Detroit Lions, who lost star wide receiver Kenny Golladay to a hip injury in Week 8 against the Indianapolis Colts, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

Golladay could head to the IR, so the Lions are doing their due diligence on Sanu.

The Lions know that Mohamed Sanu appeared in three games for the San Francisco 49ers this season before getting waived. He recorded just one reception for nine yards.

Now 31, Sanu has played for the Cincinnati Bengals, Atlanta Falcons, New England Patriots and 49ers. He has 404 receptions in his NFL career for 4,516 yards and 26 touchdowns. Sanu's best years were with the Bengals and Falcons.

After losing to the Colts at home, the Lions dropped to 3-4 on the season. They are in third place in the NFC North standings, trailing the Green Bay Packers (5-2) and Chicago Bears (5-3).

It's a shame that Kenny Golladay got hurt versus the Colts, as he's one of the best playmakers in the NFL. The Chicago native has 20 catches on the season for 338 yards and two touchdowns. He's caught 21 touchdowns with the Lions since entering the NFL in 2017 out of Northern Illinois.

The Lions will face the Minnesota Vikings in Week 9 on the road. It's going to be interesting to see if the club signs Sanu in the wake of the Golladay injury.
