When it rains, it pours.

The Detroit Lions have placed wide receiver Bruce Ellington on the injured reserve list, according to Dave Birkett of The Detroit Free Press. Ellington is just the latest wideout on the injury list for the Lions.

Ellington was signed in early November to fill in for Golden Tate, whom Detroit dealt to the Philadelphia Eagles.

In four games with the Lions this season, Ellington caught 23 passes for 132 yards. He also played in three games with the Houston Texans, registering eight catches for 92 yards and a touchdown.

The 27-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of South Carolina, was originally selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the fourth round (106th pick overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft.

He played in 13 games during his rookie campaign, but had a very limited role, finishing with six receptions for 62 yards and a couple of scores.

The following year, Ellington snared 13 balls for 153 yards.

Ellington then made his way to the Texans in 2017 and enjoyed the most productive year of his career, hauling in 29 receptions for 330 yards while reaching the end zone twice.

The Lions are two games away from ending what has been a miserable 2018 campaign, as they enter the weekend with a record of 5-9. This will mark the first time since 2015 that Detroit has not had a winning season, and while that may not sound like much, it was the first time that the Lions posted winning seasons in back-to-back years since 1995.

Detroit has not won a playoff game since the 1991-92 campaign.
