After a housecleaning back in late November, the Detroit Lions are reportedly targeting Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider to help overhaul their franchise, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport. The 5-10 Lions are currently in dire need of an experienced individual to fill in the vacant spot as they are set to conclude another woeful campaign.

The Lions fired general manager Bob Quinn along with head coach Matt Patricia after a 4-7 start to the season. Quinn manned the team's front office from 2016 to 2020 and was responsible for Patricia's hiring back in 2018.

As Lions head coach, Patricia failed to lead the squad to playoff appearances and settled for the cellar-dwelling spot in the NFC North in his two full seasons with the franchise. Detroit is in last place once again this season.

Meanwhile, Schneider is currently in his 10th campaign with the Seahawks. He previously had stints on other NFL teams as an executive, namely with the Kansas City Chiefs, Washington, and Green Bay Packers before finding his way to Seattle back in 2010.

Schneider and Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll have already led the team to two Super Bowl appearances, and they won their first title together back in Super Bowl XLVIII during the 2013 season. He currently has one year left on his contract, while Carroll was recently signed to an extension through the 2025 NFL season. The Seahawks are 11-4 this season and 111-63-1 under Schneider and Carroll.

Getting to hire an experienced team executive in Schneider would serve as a step in the right direction for the Lions, who have failed to become relevant in recent years. His potential arrival would hopefully bring the franchise back to the playoffs for the first time since 2016. Detroit hasn't actually won a playoff game since 1991.
