The Detroit Lions were hoping to become a breakout team in the 2020 NFL season with quarterback Matthew Stafford back at full health. However, their campaign hasn't gone as planned thus far thanks to a 1-3 start.

With the Lions off to a slow start, head coach Matt Patricia is on the hot seat. In fact, his job could be on the line Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Via CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora:

There is mounting frustration within the Lions' front office about the team's slow start and propensity to continue to blow big leads, with many in the organization believing a loss to the Jaguars on Sunday will result in a coaching change.

Motor City's squad opened the season with a disappointing loss to the Chicago Bears in which the team blew a 23-6 lead, followed by a 42-21 blowout defeat against the Green Bay Packers in Week 2 proceedings.

The team then managed to escape the desert with a tight 26-23 victory against the Arizona Cardinals to grab their first win of the season. In Week 4, the Lions failed to get past the New Orleans Saints, which ended in a 35-29 decision after Detroit jumped out to an early 14-0 lead.

Patricia will aim to steal a win against the struggling Jacksonville Jaguars in order to stave off this potential coaching change. The NFL has already seen two other teams fire their tacticians in the early stages of the 2020 season. The Houston Texans decided to move on from head coach and general manager Bill O'Brien, while the Atlanta Falcons are going in another direction sans former head coach Dan Quinn and former general manager Thomas Dimitroff.

With the Lions' backs against the wall with a dismal 1-3 record, the team will aim to get back on track as early as possible and save another campaign from potentially going down the drain.
