Former San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders defensive end Tank Carradine is visiting the Detroit Lions on Wednesday, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport.

Carradine only saw action in one game with the Raiders before he requested his release last week due to limited playing time. The 28-year-old spent the first five seasons of his career with the Niners after they selected him with the 40th pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, though he didn't play in 2013 due to a torn ACL he suffered in his final year at Florida State.

Carradine recorded 3.0 sacks in nine games in 2014, but he has only notched 2.5 sacks since that first season on the field. He had 1.5 sacks and 19 combined tackles in eight games last season.

Carradine signed across the Bay this past offseason, but he wasn't able to make his mark in Oakland. He made one tackle in the Raiders' 20-19 Week 2 loss to the Denver Broncos but didn't see any other action. He was officially released on Oct. 6.

While Carradine has been a flop in the NFL, that isn't stopping the Lions from checking out the 6-foot-4, 270-pounder to potentially give a boost to their defense. Detroit has been a mixed bag defensively as part of its 2-3 start. While the Lions are fifth in the league against the pass, they're dead last against the run and 26th in scoring defense at 27.4 points per game.

The expectations wouldn't be high for Carradine if he signed in Detroit, but perhaps another change in scenery would do him well.
