The Detroit Lions will have to make a choice this offseason on who will be their next quarterback, especially with Matthew Stafford out of the picture. They need to select Justin Fields out of Ohio State.

On the daily Locked On Lions podcast, host Matt Dery talked about how huge it would be for the Lions to take Fields with the seventh pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Dery: The prototypical dual-threat quarterback is Justin Fields. He is tough. He took a beating in the Clemson and Alabama games, but he got back up and made some plays. I thought he would go number two to the Jets. I thought that was a lock earlier in the year. Then I watched him against Northwestern and now I see what the Jets are doing keeping Sam Darnold then all of a sudden, Fields would drop to seven to the Lions. I would take him. I would. I would be excited about him. Remember this too, Lions fans, your president is Rod Wood.

Rod Wood runs the business. I am not saying that he is going to tell Brad Holmes what to do or John Dorsey what to do. That is not what I am saying. The Lions, now that Matthew Stafford is going to be traded, are going to have to sell tickets somehow. They are going to have to put somebody on a billboard. It might not be Kenny Golladay. Who is the face of the franchise? You bring in a guy like Justin Fields, who we all have all seen play at Ohio State, and put him on that billboard and give him an opportunity to play, Justin Fields would excite fans.
