The Detroit Lions started 2020 with two consecutive losses to fellow NFC North teams. It is safe to assume it is not how they wanted to begin their year.

And things looked bleak for Week 3, as they squared off with the 2-0 Arizona Cardinals.

However, Detroit found themselves in a position to win late in the game – very late. With just four seconds left, the Lions lined up for a 39-year field goal attempt.

Kicker Matt Prater absolutely drilled it as the time expired, and Detroit won on a walk-off field goal by a final score of 26-23.

That was a bit of a shocker. The Cardinals came into the game with a 2-0 record. Not only that, but they were truly rolling – they were not cheap wins.

Meanwhile, the Lions were 0-2 and had fallen apart in both of their two games. So keeping their composure and finding a way to win in Week 3 is a very welcome sign.

Prater is the clear MVP here. Not only did he hit the game-winner, but Prater went 4-for-4 on field goal attempts and 2-for-2 on extra point attempts in the game. That means he accounted for 14 of the 26 points that Detroit scored.

This is certainly something the Cardinals can bounce back from. Despite their 1-2 record, the Lions are a solid team and there is no shame in losing a close game to them.

Meanwhile, Detroit could now be poised to go on a run. Matthew Stafford continuously proves he is a top-tier quarterback. There is no reason to believe he can't lead them on a good run for a playoff spot.
