Dustin Johnson announced Tuesday he has resigned his PGA Tour membership and will only participate in LIV Golf events and major championships moving forward. Johnson said earlier this year he initially was committed to the PGA Tour but changed his mind.

Via ESPN's Kevin Van Valkenburg:

“For right now, I've resigned my membership on the tour and I'm going to play [LIV] for now,” Johnson said. “That's the plan.”

“At that time, I was committed to playing the PGA Tour,” Johnson said. “I'm very thankful for the PGA Tour and everything it's done for me. I've done pretty well out there for the last 15 years. But this is something that was best for me and my family. It's something exciting and something new.”

Johnson first joined the PGA Tour in 2008 and has 24 victories to go along with over $74 million in earnings. The Saudi-backed LIV Golf is throwing loads of cash at players in order to woo them, though, and Johnson ultimately decided that was best for him.

This comes after Phil Mickelson announced he would be playing in LIV Golf events, though he said he hasn't resigned his membership. Sergio Garcia, Kevin Na, Charl Schwartzel and Brandon Grace all resigned from the PGA Tour to join LIV Golf.

Johnson should still be eligible to play in the majors, including at the upcoming U.S. Open. He has exemptions based on prior victories. However, he likely will be ineligible to play in future Ryder Cups, unless there are rule changes made by the PGA of America.

Johnson is hoping that will ultimately be the case, but for now, he's getting ready to play in the first LIV Golf event over in London.
