After Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo tested positive for COVID-19 last month, another player considered one of the best in the world has tested positive for the virus in Liverpool forward Mo Salah.

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) announced that a medical swab taken from the 28-year-old came back positive for the virus, but that he hasn’t shown any symptoms. Salah was scheduled to play for his home country in an African Cup of Nations qualifiers match against Togo.

The EFA stated that Salah has since been isolating and will be “subject to more checks in the coming hours.” During the international break, Salah was spotted attending his brother’s wedding in Cairo, where he was seen partying with guests who weren’t wearing masks.

The Egyptian striker, who led Liverpool to its first league title since 1990 last season, has had a strong start to the 2020-21 season, with 10 goals in 13 appearances for the Reds, although his team finds itself at the third spot in the league table after eight matches behind Leicester City and Tottenham.

But Mo Salah is not expected to miss a lot of time for the Premier League champions, especially if he remains asymptomatic or only shows mild symptoms. Liverpool’s next match is still on November 22 against Leicester.

But the possibility of him missing time is another blow for Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, who has lost center back Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez to injuries this season and has other players like central midfielder Thiago Alcantara and forward Sadio Mane also miss time after testing positive for COVID-19.
