2 reasons Texas Longhorns' 2022 college football recruiting class is the best

Pure talent

The Longhorns recruiting class stands out in a number of ways. They don't have the flashiest incoming players, but there is plenty of underlying talent.

The Longhorns' 5-star recruits are a pair of offensive tackles in Devon Campbell and Kelvin Banks, per Heartlandcollegesports.com

Campbell weights in at 310 pounds and stands 6'3. He has plenty of size and figures to be a force on the Longhorns' O-Line. He was a multi-sport athlete in high school who possesses sneaky athleticism. He offers agile movement which only strengthens his overall ability.

Banks is 6'5 and weighs 300 pounds. He relies more on length but is still mobile. He figures to be on the edge given his speed.

These are two players who will help guide Texas moving forward. Arch Manning will have plenty of protection next year.

The team has a number of 4-star recruits. Although there are a few 4-star offensive recruits, the majority of these players are defenders. It is clear that the Longhorns have a plan, which we will discuss more later.

Texas' 2022 recruiting class is rounded out with a few more three-star recruits and transfers.

One transfer who stands out is Quinn Ewers. Ewers is profiled as a pro-style QB and is listed as a 5-star player. He features good size at 6'3 to go along with solid athleticism. He has a strong arm but his accuracy is still improving. Nonetheless, Ewers is someone to keep any eye on.

Long-term plan

Texas seemingly has a well-thought out long-term plan. They focused on building up the defense and offensive line in 2022. This helped to develop a core. As aforementioned, this 2022 Texas recruiting class is not the flashiest. But it's arguably the best because of the depth involved.

And it will set the school up for furthered success in 2023 when Arch Manning and Johntay Cook join the Longhorns.

Cook is a 5-star receiver who many expect to be the next college football superstar in 2023. With Arch Manning under center, the duo has star-studded potential without question. They will also be able to develop chemistry at Texas.

But it all starts with the 2022 recruiting class. Devon Campbell and Kelvin Banks will be unsung heroes for the Longhorns. True fans of the team will know exactly who they are, but offensive lineman tend to get overlooked. But these 5-star recruits will be pivotal to the Longhorns' success over the next few years.

Do the Longhorns have the best 2022 recruiting class?

People can make arguments for other schools. There are flashier names preparing for their freshman seasons at other top-tier schools. But Texas' depth is elite.

A few more 5-star recruits would be nice, but Cook and Banks are future stars. And Texas' immense 4-star recruit depth on defense should provide the Longhorns with a strong defense for the foreseeable future.

The Texas Longhorns may or may not have the best 2022 recruiting class, but it's certainly the most underrated.
