Steve Sarkisian scored a huge recruit recently, with five-star quarterback Arch Manning committing to play college football for the Texas Longhorns.

Manning's high school coach at Isidore Newman in New Orleans has some high praises for Sarkisian and the Longhorns' staff for managing to pull off a huge move in the offseason, while at the same time keeping the hands of the Georgia Bulldogs and the Alabama Crimson Tide off the much-ballyhooed signal-caller.

“I think everyone recruited right, but Sark especially I know is big on recruiting the whole athlete, the whole student, parents and coaches and that authenticity really resonates,” Stewart said. “I think they did a great job of flipping the script. One thing Sark has been steadfast on is even when things seem bleak, he never wavered. When he talked to me, he was always texting me to me before games , incredibly positive. It wasn’t about where they were, it was about the future. And they never negative recruited. Milwee never said a negative thing. It was all about Texas.”

As the intrigue of his last name suggests, Manning has football blood running through his veins, which the Longhorns are hoping would manifest once he's ready to go in Austin. After all, he is the nephew of former Super Bowl champion quarterbacks Eli Manning and Peyton Manning. Arch's father is former Ole Miss wideout Cooper Manning.

The Longhorns will have to wait until 2023 to finally see Arch Manning debut on the field for the program. For now, Sarkisian will have to decide between Quinn Ewers and Hudson Card as their starter in the 2022 college football campaign.

The Longhorns finished the 2021 season with a 5-7 record, while missing a ticket to a bowl game. Texas played in a bowl game every season from 2017 until Sarkisian's first year in Austin.
