Lonzo Ball and Markelle Fultz are the consensus top two picks in the upcoming draft and analysts are saying that either player could be taken at number one. Ball does not appear to have the same opinion as he is adamant that he is the better basketball player than his counterpart.

Fresh from his official declaration for the 2017 NBA draft, Ball appeared in an interview and made this claim. He believes that it is his leadership that puts him a notch higher than Fultz, who he also considers to be an excellent player himself.

“Markelle's a great player, but I feel I'm better than him,” Ball said in an interview for ESPN.com. “I think I can lead a team better than him. Obviously he's a great scorer — he's a great player, so I'm not taking that away from him.”

Ball may have a point here if you compare how their respective teams fared in the recent NCAA season. His UCLA Bruins made it all the way to the Sweet 16 only to be knocked off by Kentucky. On the other hand Fultz’s Washington Huskies did not even make it to The Big Dance and ended their season 9-22 overall.

The 6-foot-6 Ball did acknowledge that Fultz is a much more potent scorer than he is, with the latter averaging 23.2 points per ballgame last season compared to the former’s 14.6 points per contest.

Right now it is still too early to tell who the “better player” is. The upcoming draft should be a good gauge, but at the end of the day these two future greats still have the rest of their careers to prove who among them will ultimately hold this title.
