LSU Tigers head coach Ed Orgeron is a weird college football figure. He's beloved because of the way he talks by fans, but for years he was passed over by programs because he wasn't viewed as head coaching material.

Orgeron rose to national fame when he was the interim head coach with the USC Trojans. When he failed in landing the position on a full-time basis, many people became the walking embodiment of a sad face emoji.

That's some of the bad. There's more to it than that, as Ed Orgeron has even gone on record stating that some of his lack of upward progression was due to his own doings.

Here he is, all the way back in 2004 to the Sun Sentinel, discussing how important it was for him to be kicked off the Miami staff:

“Yes [my dismissal was necessary]. It led to a turnaround in my lifestyle. That's something that had to be done in my life, where I just [could feel] comfortable with what I'm doing today.”

Nevertheless, he's grown from that experience. He's also found a home with the LSU Tigers and there might not be a man who more perfectly represents his university than our friend Coach O.

Oh, and he recently donned awesome kicks.

He actually wore those to a booster club event.

It is really easy to root for LSU these days. Not that people were against rooting for Les Miles when he was manning the helm, but there's something endearing about Ed Orgeron. It is probably the fact that he seems like a character straight out of Adam Sandler's Waterboy movie.
