It has been 28 seasons since the Detroit Lions last won a playoff game. It is safe to say that there is not one on the horizon. The Lions are coming off a 3-12-1 campaign in Matt Patricia's second season as head coach. The Lions are in need of a culture change and that will begin with Patricia. Right now, Detroit is focused on the No. 3 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

The Lions need help all over the field. First on the offensive line. Georgia's Andrew Thomas will likely not make it past Detroit in the draft. Another problem is that the Lions are not exciting. Since Calvin Johnson retired, Detroit has been a boring team. Who better to bring excitement to a team than someone who scored four touchdowns in an CFB Playoff game?

Justin Jefferson Lands in Detroit

Jefferson was a huge piece to college football's best offense. He ranked third in the nation in catches (103) and receiving yards (1,434). Jefferson caught 18 touchdowns, which was tied for the most in the nation. If you watched the Peach Bowl, it was impossible to ignore Jefferson. He caught 14 passes for 227 yards and four scores.

Jefferson's draft continues to rise as we inch closer to the NFL Draft. This is a deep receiver class. Players like Jerry Jeudy, CeeDee Lamb, Tee Higgins, and Henry Ruggs III have been stealing all the headlines. This might work in favor of Detroit come day two of the draft.

ESPN currently ranks Jefferson as a top-five prospect among wide receivers. At 6-foot-3, Jefferson has the size to succeed in the NFL. He has tremendous ball skills and is an advanced route runner. Jefferson is a game changer. He proved that in the semi-finals against Oklahoma. He can wreck a game if given the chance. If there is one team that needs an offensive spark, it is the Lions.

Detroit had three receivers with 60 or more catches this season. Part of the reason why is that they were playing from behind and forced to throw the ball. Danny Amendola is currently a free agent and his future in Detroit is unknown. Jefferson could make an impact for the Lions from the start. He will be a value pick wherever he lands.

Jefferson is a day one talent, but the depth of this draft might land him in the second round. For the Lions, that is a steal and something that might be too good to pass on.
