Robbing a bank would entail lots of time, resources, and planning to pull off. If done properly, one would be millions of dollars richer at the end of this ordeal. But for one guy attending the recent Dallas Card Show, his idea of getting rich involved one of the hobby’s holy grails — a valuable Luka Doncic card.

In a video shared by Mike Simmons on various social media platforms, a pair of police officers can be seen apprehending a guy in the middle of the said card event. It was later found out that Kevin Garcia stole a Luka Doncic One of One card worth $5,000 a day earlier and tried to sell it back to another dealer.

In a thread posted by Mike Gio on Sports Card Nonsense, a Facebook group dedicated to trading cards, the plan was to lure Garcia back to the event and entrap him with the aid of the authorities. The ruse involved an individual who posed as an interested buyer of the Luka Doncic card Garcia stole, according to Gio. Upon his arrival, the police would then approach and arrest Garcia, as seen in the video.

While the actual card wasn’t identified, collectors know how valuable Luka Doncic cards are, especially those with the One and One label. By using eBay’s last sold feature, one can see the massive prices this All-Star guard command in the market. One such example is Luka Doncic’s PSA 10 2019 Optic Gold Vinyl 1/1, which was recently sold on eBay for $66,000. If the stolen card was anywhere near that value, that would have pushed Garcia to commit the said crime.

While basketball cards are definitely all the rage these days, there’s no reason to break the law in obtaining them. It’s better to enjoy the hobby in its truest form, rather than see it as a quick way of getting rich, much like what Garcia foolishly did.
