With the Los Angeles Lakers‘ vastly-improved lineup, expectations are starting to grow on how they'll fare next season. Some of their fans are already thinking that they can make it to the playoffs, and even make a lot of noise in it should they make it that far. However, for Magic Johnson, he is thinking very highly of one of their young players, and had nothing but good words to say about him.

The team's president of basketball operations recently talked about Brandon Ingram and shared what he expects from him starting in October. He praised him for staying focused on working hard and also revealed what he thinks his scoring average will be, via Mark Medina of The Orange County Register.

“The guy only cares about winning and basketball. He’s quiet and doesn’t do anything else. He is a very intelligent young man and is our hardest worker.”

“I expect him to lead us in scoring, be out there and be the man. It’s his team. It would be disappointing if he didn’t score up toward 20 points a game.”

The 19-year-old responded by saying he is up for the challenge, as he wants to be the best player that he can become.

“It’s definitely a good compliment. I definitely want to show that I’m going to be a reliable guy to put in the work. I’ll do everything I can to reach my potential.”

Although Julius Randle, Jordan Clarkson, and newly-acquired Brook Lopez are expected to lead the team, Johnson's comments definitely say a lot about the trust and confidence he has in Ingram. If the incoming second year player will be able to successfully show that he is capable of taking on a bigger role, it could be what makes the team more successful. He also has the potential to emerge as the Lakers' go-to-guy despite his young age and short experience playing in the NBA.
