The Los Angeles Lakers, earlier this year, made the decision to finally undergo some major changes in the front office that included making Magic Johnson the team's new President of Basketball Operations.

In the months that have followed, there have been reports of Jerry West potentially desiring a return to the Lakers in a significant role. According to Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News, that possibility appears to be out of the window for West with Johnson in charge.

A few months ago, a source close to West indicated he might be intrigued if the Lakers were interested in bringing him on in an advisory role.

But with the advent of Magic Johnson’s takeover and the hiring of new GM Rob Pelinka, that does not seem to be a possibility and I don’t think West would be interested any more even if it was.
This notion only rings louder with reports that West is working out a new extension with the Warriors that are expected to pick up after the NBA Finals. He has been an executive board member since May 2011 and has played a big part in constructing the current roster that has resulted to five straight playoffs with three straight NBA Finals appearances.
Over the years, West has shown to be among the most brilliant front office minds in the NBA putting together several strong teams in that role. That said, it's not surprising to see him wanting to stay with the Warriors, who look like they will remain in the championship picture for at least the foreseeable future.
Although West isn't going to rejoin the organization in any capacity, there have been talks of both Kobe Bryant and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar helping out on the team in the coming months.
