Before Orlando Magic guard Arron Afflalo and Minnesota Timberwolves forward Nemanja Bjelica were ejected during the second quarter of Tuesday's 108-102 Magic win, there was some heat that led to Afflalo punching Bjelica. First, it was an exchange of words that got both a technical foul.

About four minutes later, Bjelica bumped into Afflalo after a shot. Afflalo was not having it swung, hitting Bjelica on the forehead. The officials gave both a second technical foul, which granted them an immediate ejection.

via The Orlando Sentinel's Victor Tan:

“It’s an unfortunate incident, just competitive nature, an isolated incident,” said Afflalo. “I’m very proud of my teammates. They stayed composed. Through all of that, they put up a great fight. Regardless of the energy that was sparked from that, us getting a win last night and showing some fight figuratively — for me literally but for them figuratively — was a great thing.”

Apparently, there was no history between the two players before the scuffle. Afflalo said he will try to be calmer in any future heated situations:

“It was nothing personal. I don’t know him. But that happens all the time,” said the Magic guard. “It’s just unfortunate that it escalated to where it ended between us. I’ll try to handle it a little bit better next time.”

The NBA did not take disciplinary measures against either player, besides the fines given when getting a technical foul despite Afflalo appearing to clearly hit Bjelica with a punch. This comes as a surprise, as the NBA has been very strict when it comes to punching and fighting mid-game.
