Orlando Magic point guard D.J. Augustin is edging closer to a return to the lineup after missing the last seven games due to a strained left hamstring injury. Augustin is targeting a return this Saturday against the Utah Jazz, or if not, Monday's game against the Indiana Pacers.

“I feel a lot better right now,” Augustin said per the Orlando Sentinel’s Josh Robbins. “I’m leaving it up to the training staff on when I could return, but it’s looking like pretty soon. So I hope either Saturday or Monday, at least one of those games, because I’ve been ready to play. I’m just tired of sitting out. It’s hard to sit out. But with a hamstring, you want to be careful with it, because it could recur and I don’t want to go backwards.”

Augustin had started six of the Magic’s first eight games of the season after Elfrid Payton went down with his own hamstring problem. Augustin averaged 8.5 points and 5.7 assists as a starter as the Magic went an impressive 5-1 during that span.

The Magic have since struggled to rediscover that strong early-season form without Augustin. They have gone 2-5 over their last seven games and dropped three games in a row during their recent four-game Western Conference road trip.
