The Orlando Magic have announced that undrafted rookie Isaiah Briscoe will be out for an extended period of time with a “small meniscus tear.”

Briscoe went undrafted out of Kentucky, but he has averaged 14.3 minutes in 39 games for the Magic this season.

Orlando is in the throes of a hotly contested playoff battle against the Miami Heat and Charlotte Hornets for the 8th seed in the Eastern Conference.

The Magic are currently outside the playoff picture, sitting one game behind the Heat for the eighth spot with a 30-36 record. However, according to Tankathon.com, the Magic have something of a powderpuff schedule to end the season.

The Heat and Hornets, on the other hand, both have two of the top 10 hardest schedules remaining over the final stretch of the 2018-19 regular season.

Either way, the Magic will likely be without Briscoe for the rest of the season, which means that the team will lean more heavily on veteran point guard D.J. Augustin. Backup guard Jerian Grant and two-way rookie Troy Caupain are also expected to get more minutes with this development.

Isaiah Briscoe, who is actually the cousin of Boston Celtics superstar Kyrie Irving, is evaluating possible treatment options, and the Magic will provide updates as they become available.
