The Orlando Magic are reportedly negotiating a deal with Isaiah Thomas, but it turns out he’s not the only “Isaiah” the team has in mind. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Magic have worked out a deal with guard Isaiah Briscoe.

The Magic hit the offseason looking to shore up their backcourt. Last year, they had Elfrid Payton serving as their starting point guard before the role was inherited by D.J. Augustin when the former was shipped off to the Phoenix Suns. The Magic can’t expect much of a turnaround if they will continue to have Augustin serving as the main table-setter for Orlando, so it’s a team priority to add depth to the position.

Briscoe’s hire is unlikely to be the last maneuver for the Magic in trying to strengthen their backcourt. Briscoe has not yet proven himself in the NBA and it’s still possible that he might not be included in the team’s final roster cut.

Briscoe went undrafted in last year’s NBA Draft after playing two years for the Kentucky Wildcats. Over those stretch in Lexington, the 6-foot-3 guard averaged 10.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 3.7 assists in 70 games (69 starts) under John Calipari. He shot 45.5 percent from the field, but was atrocious from behind the arc, converting just 22.9 percent of his shots from deep.

Before agreeing to a contract with the Magic, Isaiah Briscoe brought his talents over in Europe, playing for Kalev in the Estonian league.

Briscoe can prove himself worthy of a roster spot in the Summer League
