Orlando Magic point guard Isaiah Briscoe will undergo surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee on Wednesday, the team announced Monday.

For now, it is not clear how long Briscoe will be sidelined. The length of his absence will be determined by his response during the rehabilitation process:

The Magic signed Briscoe in July of last year. The former Kentucky Wildcat has made 39 appearances off the bench this season, racking up averages of 3.5 points on 39.9 percent shooting from the field (32.4 percent from beyond the arc), 2.2 assists and 1.9 rebounds in 14.3 minutes per outing.

With Briscoe ruled out and the 2018-19 season coming to an end, the Magic will rely on D.J. Augustin and Jerian Grant at the point guard position going forward.

“He’s going to be important,” Magic head coach Steve Clifford recently told The Athletic, referring to Grant. “We’ve played good games with Jerian, too, and we’re going to have to do that. He shoots the ball well. He’s got good size.”

In his last outing — a 105-97 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday — Grant logged 17 minutes, recording nine points, five rebounds, one assist and a plus/minus rating of plus-14.

The Magic (31-37 and one game behind the eighth-seeded Miami Heat) will be back in action on Wednesday, when they'll travel to the nation's capital for a matchup against the Wizards.
