The Orlando Magic managed to get back into the win column against the Washington Wizards. Unfortunately, they did not make it out unscathed after power forward Jonathan Isaac suffered what appeared to be a severe knee injury in the opening minutes.

According to John Denton of the team's official website, Isaac is optimistic that he avoided a major injury:

Forward Jonathan Isaac is walking and bending his left knee and feels his MRI on Thursday in Orlando will come back clean. He is confident that he avoided a major injury and might not have to miss any time of game action.

This is certainly an encouraging update for Orlando considering the initial reaction to the 6-foot-11 forward's injury after he was stretchered off the court. He has since been diagnosed with a hyperextended knee and is set to undergo an MRI this week.

Although the 22-year-old's comments indicate that the injury is not deemed to be too severe, the prospect of having to miss any time would deal a crushing blow to the Magic's personnel. The former sixth overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft has made some promising strides in the 2019-20 NBA season by averaging 12.3 points, 7.1 rebounds, and a staggering 2.5 blocks per game thus far.

Of course, this is all the more reason for the Magic to take a cautious approach with such an integral member of their young core. They have managed to play themselves into the playoff picture as the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference. It remains to be seen how long they will have to hold out until Isaac comes back.
