The Orlando Magic received some good news and some bad news with respect to the status of third-year forward Jonathan Isaac on Thursday.

Isaac did not suffer any structural damage to his ACL, MCL or PCL ligaments, but he will still miss two months of action due to a severe sprain and bone contusion in his left knee, according to ESPN NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski:

Isaac was forced to leave Wednesday's game on a stretcher after trying to euro step his way past Washington Wizards guard Bradley Beal. Isaac immediately collapsed to the ground and grabbed his knee. The Magic initially called the injury a hyperextended left knee, but they have received some more clarity.

The Magic took a flier on the former Florida State product when they selected him with the sixth pick of the 2017 NBA Draft. Isaac had a reputation as a tremendous defender in college, but he was also mostly disappointing as an offensive threat for the Seminoles.

However, Isaac has improved significantly in each year with the Magic. After an injury-riddled rookie season, Isaac started in 64 of 75 games in his sophomore campaign. This year, Isaac has seen yet another increase in both minutes and production.

The 22-year-old was averaging 12.0 points and 6.9 rebounds prior to the injury, and he was staking his own claim for the NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award. Isaac was averaging an absurd 2.4 blocks and 1.6 steals per game, both of which speak to Isaac's athleticism, versatility and awareness.

Although it is good news that Isaac could return before the end of the year, this is a big loss for a Magic team that have been reliant on defensive playmakers all season.
