Orlando Magic third-year forward Jonathan Isaac appears to be nearing his return to action following a brief spell on the sidelines. According to the 22-year-old himself, he is currently targeting Wednesday night's matchup against the defending champs, the Toronto Raptors, as his potential return date.

Isaac recently suffered a freak injury, as he mysteriously sprained his ankle during a non-basketball team event. This turned out to be more serious than initially presumed, with the 6-foot-11 forward missing two contests for the Magic thus far.

There was a lot of talk in the preseason about Isaac potentially having a breakout year with Orlando this term, and in 11 games played this season, the highly-promising youngster has definitely lived up to the hype. Currently, he is averaging 12.1 points (on 49.5 percent shooting), 6.5 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.3 steals, and 2.8 blocks (!), while connecting on 1.3 3-pointers per ballgame on a 35.9 percent clip. These are across the board career-best numbers from Isaac, who has been a huge factor for his team thus far.

It is worth noting, however, that given the circumstances, there is definitely still a big chance that Isaac ends up sitting out Wednesday night's contest against the Raptors. He will still needs to get clearance from Orlando's medical staff, and you can be sure that the team will be erring on the side of caution here. There's just no point in playing Isaac unless he is one hundred percent healthy. We should get a firmer update on his status for the game following this morning's shootaround.
