Point guard Michael Carter-Williams was named the NBA's Rookie of the Year in 2013-14 as a member of the Philadelphia 76ers. Fast-forward to March 2019 and he is currently on a 10-day contract with the Orlando Magic, battling to remain in the league. Following his Magic debut Sunday, Carter-Williams had this to say about how he's embracing his opportunity with a club currently battling for a playoff spot, via John Denton of OrlandoMagic.com:

“This is very important. I don't know how many more chances I'm going to get. I don't take for [granted] anything. I'm going to play hard every possession and try to make the right play all the time.”

Carter-Williams logged 16 minutes off the bench and finished with five points, four rebounds, and one assist, shooting 0-for-3 from the floor overall, but 5-for-8 from the free-throw stripe. The Magic have an opening at the point guard position with Isaiah Briscoe down due to a knee injury, needing a backup to starting point guard D.J. Augustin.

It's been a circuitous journey through the league for Carter-Williams since he was the 11th overall pick by Philadelphia in the 2013 NBA Draft out of Syracuse. He spent a season and a half with the Sixers before he was flipped to Milwaukee, where he spent 79 games. Since then, he's seen one season each with the Chicago Bulls, Charlotte Hornets and most recently, the Houston Rockets, with whom he appeared in 16 games earlier this year and averaged 9.1 minutes with prior to his trade and subsequent release.
