Orlando Magic center Nikola Vucevic is defending D.J. Augustin after some fans took digs at Augustin.

In a mailbag in The Athletic, a fan asked, “Why does D.J. Augustin continue to get minutes when he is by far the worst player that the Magic have awarded minutes to this season?”

Vucevic was irked by the question when he saw it on Friday, and he felt compelled to address it after Augustin scored 24 points in the Magic's 126-106 victory over the Houston Rockets on Sunday. “They’re just saying stupid stuff. They have no idea. They were just saying stupid stuff that made no sense and calling him the ‘worst player’ and this and that…it pissed me off because I know D.J., how much he cares and how much of a pro he is and how much he’s given (to the team).”

For the season, the 32-year old Augustin is averaging 10.3 points and 4.6 assists in 24.8 minutes per game, primarily serving as the backup point guard to Markelle Fultz.

On Monday, The Athletic asked the questioner for a response to Vucevic, to which the Magic fan wrote via direct message: “I believe that what I said could be a little biased based off of recent results. When D.J. Augustin is at full strength, he is this team’s second-best player off the bench behind Terrence. I believe that this season has been very lackluster. All of his stats and percentages have dropped a significant amount, especially his 3-point percentage. He is also somewhat a liability defensively.”

The Magic (29-35) currently occupy the no. 8 seed in the East, 0.5 games behind the Brooklyn Nets (29-34).
