In a recent development first reported by David Early of Liberty Ballers, the Detroit Pistons and Orlando Magic are showing interest in Markelle Fultz of the Philadelphia 76ers. Early writes:

“According to sources who spoke with Liberty Ballers Wednesday, the Detroit Pistons and Orlando Magic have recently demonstrated interest in trading for Markelle Fultz.”

It's no surprise that teams are interested in Fultz. Despite his ongoing health issues and puzzling decline in play, he was the No. 1 overall pick in 2017. The Pistons and the Magic may think they can acquire Fultz when his value is at a low point.

The Pistons backcourt has underwhelmed this season. They might believe that Fultz will prosper under the tutelage of reigning head coach of the year, Dwane Casey. If Fultz can get healthy and regain his shot that helped him get drafted first overall, he could be a possible answer for Detroit's backcourt woes.

The Magic are in need of a point guard of the future. Perhaps they believe that a healthy Fultz can be that guy. Recently hired head coach Steve Clifford has all the confidence of the front office. A change of scenery and a new coaching staff could be exactly what Fultz needs.

That's not a slight at Philly or head coach Brett Brown. They are not at fault for what happened with Fultz, but it may be best for the organization to cut their losses and try to get the best possible return for Fultz.
