In a recent spate of “what if” scenarios that would've changed the course of NBA history, Tracy McGrady weighed on the supposed Tim Duncan team-up. Bruce Bowen, Duncan's former teammate with the San Antonio Spurs, recently revealed that the Big Fundamental was planning to sign with the Orlando Magic during the summer of 2000.

Below is Bowen's story, in part:

“One thing Gregg Popovich didn't do was screw it up with Tim Duncan. I remember when Tim was a free agent, he was thinking about going to Orlando when Doc was there. … When Tim went out to meet with Orlando, he asked, ‘can family come on the flights to some games?' From what I understand, Doc said no, and that's when he lost Tim Duncan”

Tracy McGrady, who signed with the Magic that offseason, was clueless about the said deal up until this year's All-Star break. In a report by George Diaz of the Orlando Sentinel, the seven-time All-Star responded:

“I want to slap the [bleep] out of Doc Rivers’ ass,” McGrady said Tuesday afternoon when I brought up Duncan and the “what if” scenario.

“After all these years I just found this out during the All-Star break. Doc Rivers. Wait ’til I see him.”

If the deal with Tim Duncan would've gone thru and if Grant Hill didn't get injured, the Magic would've been one of the best teams assembled in history. All three players were just entering their prime during those years. Who knows what could've happened?
