The Milwaukee Bucks have elected to boycott Game 5 of their first-round series against the Orlando Magic on Wednesday.

However, Shams Charania of The Athletic reported the Magic will not be accepting the Bucks' forfeit in a show of support. Charania also reported Bucks players are attempting to contact the attorney general of Wisconsin following the shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha over the weekend.

This is something that clearly felt personal to the Bucks. Aside from the fact the shooting occurred in their home state, multiple Bucks players—including Sterling Brown and John Henson—have been vocal about their experiences with police.

Moreover, the players have the full support of the organization. Bucks SVP Alex Lasry took to Twitter to say “The stand taken today by the players and [organization] shows that we’re fed up.” Lasry also noted “we stand 100 percent behind our players ready to assist and bring about real change.”

Had the Magic accepted the forfeiture, they would have trailed 2-3 in the series. But some things are much bigger than basketball, and this is an instance where it appears the players are keen to show uniformity.

That last part should hardly come as a surprise. After all, the players engaged in debate as to whether they would even play in a restart following the death of George Floyd in late May. They have been insistent on keeping the focus on social justice ever since play began in Orlando.

But basketball hardly feels important after the latest incident of police violence against another unarmed Black man.
